I have a dilemma with your categories. We have groceries, dining out and… food & drink. I never know whether I should choose groceries or food & drink. Dining out is more obvious as it's for dine-in restaurants.

FYI: I've updated all categories on the site, please let me know what you think! The automatic mappings might need some work with new categories

    Notes:

    • Only english

    • Description --> category matching logic is hardcoded for now, in the future it will be multi-language and allowing people to contribute mappings!

An update here: I'm planning to do this (auto guess category) + category revamp (primary & secondary category) in the future, so will be pausing this work until categories are finalized then will pick back up

It would also be great if I could just assign certain Keywords to Categories. Eg. we have a local grocery chain called Aldi, if I could just add a rule to categorize everything which has Aldi in the title as food, that would be great!

One thing that always annoyed me about Splitwise is it would not learn how I categorized certain expenses. In addition to guessing the category based on hardcoded associations or AI magic, I would love it if the system could remember that I like to categorize "Hulu" as "Entertainment" instead of "Utilities", or that "Dakzen" should be "Dining out". I've given it all this helpful historical data that it ignores :(
