What You Can Do in the App

The mobile app includes all core features:

  • Create and edit expenses

  • Add groups and friends

  • Record payments (Settle Up)

  • View balances and activity

  • Scan receipts (Premium)

  • Access bank-synced transactions (Premium)

Web vs Mobile

Most features work identically on web and mobile. A few notes:

Mobile strengths:

  • Quick expense entry on the go

  • Camera access for receipt scanning

  • Push notifications (coming soon)

Web strengths:

  • Larger screen for complex itemized splits

  • Easier bulk editing

  • Some advanced settings

For best results, use whichever platform fits your situation. Your data syncs seamlessly between them.

Troubleshooting

App isn't syncing

  • Check your internet connection

  • Try force-closing and reopening the app

  • Sign out and sign back in

Date shows wrong day

If expenses save with the wrong date (usually one day off), this was a known timezone issue that has been fixed. Make sure you're on the latest app version. Update from the App Store or Google Play.

Expense splits reset to all members

When creating an expense in a group on mobile, it defaults to including all members. If you removed some members but they reappear after saving, ensure you're on the latest version. This bug has been addressed.

Camera not working for receipts

  • Check that SplitMyExpenses has camera permission in your device settings

  • Restart the app after granting permission

  • Supported image formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC
